Design Construction
Concepts Wins “Best
Contemporary Kitchen” Award
Northbrook,
Il – June, 2006 Design Construction Concepts
(DCC), a Northbrook-based architectural design and construction
management firm, has received an award for “Best Contemporary
Kitchen” by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicagoland.
The
award is for a kitchen DCC redesigned for a Northbrook home built
in the 1970s. The home was recently featured in “Remodel Chicagoland,” A
Tour of Remodeled Homes sponsored by the Home Builders Association
of Greater Chicago.
“We had two objectives,” said Michael
Menn, DCC principal. “First we wanted to make the kitchen
more functional. Second, we wanted to make it more contemporary.”
To make the room more functional, a “U” shaped
cabinet/countertop was removed. It was replaced with an island
that enables much more efficient movement around the room.
To give the kitchen a more contemporary look, golden
pearwood cabinets were incorporated. Black granite countertops
containing flecks of copper complementing the cabinet color were
used. Professional, stainless steel appliances were put in. Additionally,
all the lighting was redesigned, including undercabinet task lighting
and accent lighting inside the upper cabinetry containing decorative
glass doors. New wood floors were installed in the kitchen,
as well as all other public areas of the house. The oak floors
were finished with golden color oil to complement the kitchen cabinets.
In addition to redesigning the kitchen, DCC also
redesigned the powder room and mud room.
“We are very appreciative of the award,” Menn
said. “Obviously this was a team effort, and we could
not have accomplished this without the help of our subcontractors. And
we had a great client.”
Remodel Chicagoland was held May 21 and 22. The
tour featured nine homes throughout the Chicago area. DCC was
one of seven remodelors featured this year.
